NARCOTICO - MEO FUSCIUNI
NARCOTICO - MEO FUSCIUNI
Cycle of Mysticism
After many years, I went back to these streets, but I didn't recognize any of these faces, new looks and foreign hands approached mine. Fragments of existence, continuous questions about the true meaning of the sacred, the perfume becomes a smell, hidden in the old sacristies, among the old benches of the monumental and popular churches of Palermo, in the old cabinets of the grandmothers; each alley conceals its personal perfume, an old fabric shop, the baker's oven, the hairdresser with its old cologne waters and the warm perfume of pastries. On Sunday, I remember, after Mass my father held my hand, we would pass the pastry shop in the street, my father would buy a tray of cannoli, it was a ritual, a beautiful olfactory memory, the ricotta, the candied fruits, the return home. I had disappeared in Sicily for many years and the candid face left the image of a face covered with a thick beard, my hands no longer make gestures, my mind questions itself and my curious nose explores space. Narcotico is a fragrance inspired by my Sicily, on the relationship with my most distant and visceral memories, the emptiness, the depth of being. A search that continues every day, without ever stopping, almost a challenge to want to observe how far the smell of a place can take us. It's a journey to understand who you are, what your real roots are and the scent of olfactory memories is the way to climb and let go.
Like any indelible sign, I remember each step well. The journey began in the city of Palermo, on the steps of a church, last September. I knew I was looking for something to start writing and feeling. The incessant smell of this threshold that I never crossed is still in my olfactory memory.
