Perfume extract
Chords: Iris with facet Oudh, Oriental woody spicy
Mood: Hedonist assertive, Mysterious and Luxurious
A voluptuous and dirty Iris.
When East meets West: the fascinating point of contact between different cultures, where diversity produces a new language. Iconic materials from the East and West - the Oudh and the Iris - mixed together into a mysterious and voluptuous new creature.
The fascination with contamination
I have always been fascinated by the contaminations from different cultures, which give rise to new forms - called syncretic, eclectic: for me, a new deviant wonder.
I remember my enchantment for the exotic and mysterious pseudo-Arab scriptures in the halos of some Renaissance paintings focusing on a quintessential character of Christian culture and yet contaminated by a reference to Arab culture.
Or the incredible syncretic forms such as Greek or Roman temples transformed into Christian churches, or Indo-Islamic architecture, merging two cultures into a new language.
Dating, the perfume
This obsession, I wanted to make it a reality with Rencontres, thanks to the association of two emblematic ingredients of the East and the West, the Iris and the Oudh - a moment of contact at the origin of a new creature.
You will find the sophisticated refinement of iris butter, with its soft and mysterious powdering; a material that develops in the soil to then generate the most lyrical of flowers.
And you will find the Oudh, a material born from infection of the Aquilaria trees, which then produces one of the most captivating and complex odors in the perfumery's range of ingredients.
Iconic material: Iris butter
The iris is an emblematic flower of Western culture. It is the symbol of the city of Florence - in the countryside of which has developed one of the most important areas for the cultivation of this flower.
Fleur de lys has also been the symbol of the kings of France since the 12th century.
And the iris is found countless times in paintings of Western history.
Iconic material: Oudh
The Oudh is an emblematic ingredient of oriental culture because of its crucial importance. Derived from an infection of the Aquilaria tree, it is native to South and Southeast Asia, as well as parts of the Middle East.
Used for spiritual and religious purposes, it is supposed to help raise the mind and create a sense of calm and connection with the Divine.
Considered one of the most valuable materials in perfumery for its intense and complex aroma, it is wooded with cooked, animal and smoked facets.
