When the spider lilies, butterflies and frangipani trees line every path and the lotus bloom in the smallest stretch of water, the landscape becomes fragrant. Amongst the native flowers in Bali, the locals made the frangipani flower the emblem of their island and the offering to their many gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon. Sensitive to ceremonies, dances, offerings, or the smell and color of one another, it seemed to me that the scent of these flowers told of the beauty and diversity of the island.”
